The 6.6L LB7 Duramax (2001–2004) uses cast-aluminum pistons. Each piston has a steel wrist pin and a recessed bowl in the crown. This bowl helps with fuel mixing and combustion. The pistons are strong but light, built to handle high pressure and heat. Cooling oil jets spray the bottom of each piston to help control temperature. Three rings seal each piston—two for compression, one for oil control. These pistons work well with the LB7’s high-compression, direct-injection system. In high-power builds, forged pistons often replace the stock ones for added strength.
Building engines the way the OEM factory should have in the first place.
