Build Features:

Full CNC blue print machining, (bore, deck, hone and line honed).

We blue print bore the cylinder bores to a true 90 degrees from the crankshaft center line.

The Crankshaft is Polished and ground to .0005 concentricity or less.

Diamond hone within .0002 inch for precise piston to cylinder bore clearances.

We  line hone the crankshaft bore housing to precisely align the crankshaft in the engine block.

We bore the block back to the crankshaft center line.

The piston diameter measured to the nearest .0001 inch matched to cylinder bores.

The Cylinder block on this 7.3L Powerstroke Short Block will be surfaced to a finish of RA30 or lower. This is mandatory for proper sealing of a MLS Gasket.

What does blueprinting an engine mean?

Why do you need O-Ringed Cylinder heads? And what exactly is that?

The Workhorse comes with a Billet Flexplate made in house at Choate Engineering Performance.

All our 7.3 Engines come with a Billet Blow-Proof Freeze Plugs

Piston Cracking is a real problem with tuned diesel trucks. Watch this video to see what we do to fix that!

Want to know more about the Workhorse Camshaft? Here is a video with Cass and Billy Godbold of Comp Cams and they discuss the design behind it.

Do you really need balancing though? Or is it just a lot of hype?

Common Issues With The Ford Powerstroke 7.3L Block and Heads (and how we fix them):

  •  The 7.3L was plagued with inferior valve and seat material from the factory. The original design used parent material for the seats. Consequently, they were known to crack from heat cycles.
  • The valves of the 7.3 are commonly known to wear down well below the margins. With razor sharp edges which can fail leaving the piston to take on the remainder of the valve in the cylinder.
  • We only use brand new valves that exceed OEM standards, which do not have this issue.
  • By use of our extensive cleaning methods thru media blasting, furnaces, spray cabinets, hot tanks, and ultra sonic equipment, we have protected your investment.
  • 2001-2003 year model 7.3L’s came with Powdered Metal Rods. They were prone to failure around the 400 HP mark. These rods are only an issue at higher HP levels which is why we use forged rods for the Workhorse Model engines.

Optional Parts are not installed or covered by CHOATE. They are subject to the manufacturer’s warranty.
