If this is a 94-96 7.3L Powerstroke and you’re buying a girdle IDP73GIRDLE then you need to buy a 97+ front cover YC3Z6019BA

This build includes:

Full CNC blueprint machining, (bore, deck, hone, and line honed).

We blue print bore the Cylinder bores to a true 90 degrees from the crankshaft center line, prior to diamond honing to within .0002 inch for precise piston to cylinder bore clearances.

We will main bore and line hone the crankshaft to precisely align the crankshaft in the engine block.

We bore the block back to the crankshaft center line and hone the block to Ra 13 finish. The piston diameter measured to the nearest .0001 inch matched to cylinder bores.

We will surface the Cylinder block on this 7.3L Powerstroke Short Block to a finish of RA30 or lower, to meet factory specification in both flatness and smoothness for the block to head sealing surface. This is mandatory for proper sealing of a MLS Gasket.

  • Connecting Rods, New Damper and New Flex plate with automatic transmissions.
  • Check both wrist pin and crank pin to rod clearances.
  • New upgraded Pistons .10 – .30 inch over – New pistons, rings, Pin retainers weight matched prior to crank balancing

Common Issues With The Ford Powerstroke 7.3L Block and Heads (and how we fix them):

  • Valve Issues- The 7.3L was plagued with inferior valve and seat material from the factory.
  • The original design used parent material for the seats. And the seats were known to wear at higher rates causing the valve to sink further into the head.
  • The valves of the 7.3 are commonly known to wear down well below the margins. Leaving razor sharp edges that can fail leaving the piston to take on the remainder of the valve in the cylinder. We only use brand new valves that exceed OEM standards, which do not have this issue.
  • Excess Sand From Casting Process – Excess Sand from the manufacturing process while uncommon, can clog the oil cooler, but more commonly would beat upon the water pump causing premature failure. By use of our extensive cleaning methods thru media blasting, furnaces, spray cabinets, hot tanks, and ultra sonic equipment, we have protected your investment.
  • Powdered Metal Rods- For the most part, 2001-2003 7.3L’s came with Powdered Metal Rods that were prone to failure around the 400 HP mark.
  • These rods are only an issue at higher HP levels which is why we use forged rods for anything above 400 HP.

Optional Parts are not installed and not covered by CHOATE, however they are covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.
