A failed turbo can cost you an engine. Continuing to run a turbocharger that has excessive shaft play will cause metal from the compressor wheel to enter the intake. And also oil from seals that are unable to keep oil out of the intake will result in a possible “runaway” or loss of oil causing bearing failures.
