Current Lead Times: 1-3 Weeks on Most Engines; 3-4 Days on Heads – *call us for more exact lead times for your specific build

Today’s vehicles require more power, advanced technologies and greater fuel efficiency to meet customer expectations and regulations. And with the rising demand for these features, today’s truck owners are investing more in their vehicles to get the job done. With more power, greater efficiency and growth tendencies in the industry, the diesel engine is experiencing a revival. The most popular engines used in vehicles today are Cummins, Duramax and PowerStroke. These engines are all based on the same basic technology but they have different cylinder head designs. This means you need to understand the workings of cylinder heads and what that means for you as a diesel mechanic.

To better understand, Cass from Choate Engineering joins us today to talk about Cummins, Duramax and Powerstroke cylinder heads! Why do the stock heads leave so much to be desired? Does your 5.9L CR have an internal EGR? What can porting do to improve durability on a daily-driver? Listen now and hear this in-depth look at air flow. You’ve never heard a podcast topic like this one!

There are many different things that can be done to improve the performance of your diesel engine. Among them are things like increasing the compression ratio, increasing the boost pressure, increasing the engine speed, modifying the ignition timing, or changing the fuel injector size. Now, let’s not forget about changing the cylinder head. The cylinder head is the most important part of your engine. If it isn’t working correctly, your engine is basically broken. A bad cylinder head can cause a ton of problems with your engine, so make sure to keep an eye out for any issues.

Cummins, Duramax and Powerstroke cylinder heads are all different in function, design and parts. Understanding this will help you make the right decision for your diesel engine build.
