Product Questions
Compatibility is key when dealing with diesel performance. We recommend having your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) or your ESN (Engine Serial Number) ready. You can find detailed fitment information on each product page at choateperformance.com.
If you are unsure, please contact our technical support team before placing your order to verify compatibility with your specific year, make, and model.

A Short Block typically includes the engine block, crankshaft, camshaft, connecting rods, and pistons.
A Long Block includes everything in the Short Block plus the cylinder heads and valvetrain. Choosing between the two depends on whether your existing cylinder heads are in good enough condition to be reused.

Not necessarily. If your injectors are in fact good, you’re fine to reuse them. However, it is very common for trucks to run well enough with bad injectors that the driver can’t tell a difference. Even slightly bad injectors can eventually cause catastrophic damage to an engine.
We highly recommend that you get your injectors tested by a reputable facility before reinstalling them into a new engine.

Once your order ships, you will receive an automated email with a tracking number and a link to the carrier’s website. For freight shipments, the carrier will often call you to schedule a delivery window once the shipment arrives at the local terminal.
Due to the weight and size of our engines, they are shipped via LTL (Less Than Truckload) freight. They are secured in heavy-duty custom crates to prevent damage during transit.
Smaller components and accessories are shipped via standard ground carriers like UPS or FedEx.
See our shipping policy page for details.
It is highly recommended. If you are shipping to a residential address or a shop without a dock or forklift, you must request a liftgate service during checkout. The freight carrier will use a liftgate to lower the crate to the ground, but you will still be responsible for moving the crate from the curb to your workspace.
See our shipping policy page for details.

Core Questions
Most of our engines and major components are sold on an exchange basis. A core charge is a deposit paid at the time of purchase which is fully refundable upon the return of your old, rebuildable engine or part (the core). Once we receive your core and inspect it to ensure it meets our criteria, the core deposit will be refunded to your original payment method.
See our Core Policy page for details.
We aim to make the core return process as seamless as possible. When your new engine arrives, keep the original packaging and crate. Once your old engine is removed and drained of all fluids, secure it in the crate. Contact us to schedule a freight pickup. We handle the logistics to ensure the core returns to our facility safely.
It is important to first read our Core Policy page for detailed and up-to-date instructions.
To receive a full core refund, the core must be the same configuration as the engine purchased and must not have extensive damage such as a hole in the block, a cracked head, or fire damage. Standard wear and tear are expected.
See our Core Policy page for details.
If you are concerned about the condition of your core, please reach out to us for a pre-inspection consultation.

Other Questions
We take immense pride in our work, which is why we offer some of the most competitive warranties in the industry.
Our warranties cover defects in materials and workmanship. Specific warranty lengths (e.g., 5-year/100,000-mile) vary depending on the engine series purchased.
See our Warranty Information page for details.
While we allow for self-installation, the warranty requires that the installation follows our specific guidelines, including the replacement of certain cooling and fuel system components to prevent contamination of the new engine. We highly recommend professional installation by a certified diesel technician to ensure all parameters are met.
Proper break-in is critical for the longevity of your engine. We provide a detailed break-in guide with every engine shipment. This typically involves using a specific break-in oil, avoiding constant RPMs for the first several hundred miles, and performing a mandatory oil change after the initial break-in period.
Unopened and unused parts in their original packaging can be returned within 30 days of purchase, subject to a restocking fee.
Please note that custom-ordered parts and installed electrical components are generally not eligible for return.
