How do I find my engine's spec code or dash number?

  • For a Komatsu engine dash number (e.g., -1, -2, or -3), check the Engine Data Plate - usually located on the top rocker cover or the side of the gear housing.
  • Kawasaki engines generally use a 'model-spec code' format (e.g., FD750D-S02) where the number before the dash identifies the broad engine series (e.g., FD series liquid-cooled V-twin), approximate displacement in cc (745 or 750), and crankshaft orientation (D for horizontal). The number after the series is the spec code and identifies a specific variant/engine part configuration. On these engines, look for a silver, white, or black barcode identification sticker attached to the side of the blower housing shroud right near the electric starter or the oil dipstick - or - check the sides or rear of the engine block crankcase casting.
  • On Xuzhou Construction Machinery Group (XCMG) engines, you will see standard third-party names (e.g., a Cummins QSB6.7) and can use those respective serial numbers. You can usually find them stamped onto a riveted metal plate mounted somewhere on the frame of the machine.

If you're missing your tag, provide your machine serial number to our team and we'll verify the build for you.

What common codes do Komatsu engines throw?

Dealing with a common CA559 or CA2249 rail pressure code? We made a comprehensive technical guide to diagnosing the most common codes you'll see from the Komatsu SAA6D107E engine series. Check it out here.

Can I customize my industrial engine?

Our remanufactured long blocks feature CNC blueprinting, precision balancing, and upgraded internals to outlast OEM replacements. Looking for further customizations? Explore your options on each engine product page.
